Many ramps have opened back up for open-water fishing below the dams. Use caution on backwaters on the upper Mississippi River. Recent rains may make ice unsafe. Refreezing after the rain will cause slick conditions. Don't forget your ice cleats. Ice thickness is 8-10 inches in some areas. Anglers are catching good numbers of panfish and bass with some sorting. Entice lethargic fish to bite by presenting live bait such as a waxworm or spike motionless a few inches off the bottom.
